This Privacy Policy explains how MatchMeAMovie ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and our TV app.
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google or Amazon instead, we receive your name, email address and an account number from them, rather than a password.
Preferences. We store the genre preferences, streaming service subscriptions, country, and era or content preferences you set.
Your ratings and lists. We collect how you interact with our recommendation system, including movie ratings, watchlist additions, "not interested" selections, calibration responses and Movie Night picks. This builds a personalized taste profile and improves the recommendations we show you.
How you use the site. We record which pages are opened and what is clicked (see How you use the site).
Device information. If you allow notifications, your browser gives us a notification address for that device. On the TV app, we keep a random code that identifies the TV.
To improve MatchMeAMovie, we record which pages are opened and what is clicked (for example a button or a link), when, on what kind of device, and how long a visit lasts. If you're signed in, this is linked to your account; if not, only to a random visitor number. We never record what you type. We keep this for 90 days, and don't share it with anyone.
We show the streaming services, prices and release dates for your country. When you sign up we suggest it from your device's time zone or language, and you can change it at any time in Preferences, under Streaming services. We store the country you choose, not your location.
You can ask us to tell you about Movie Night, and about films and shows you're waiting for: when one is in cinemas, can be watched at home, comes to one of your streaming services, or is free to watch. We send these as notifications on the phones and computers where you've allowed them, otherwise by email. We use a device's notification address only to send MatchMeAMovie notifications, and delete it when you turn notifications off or delete your account. You can change or switch off notifications at any time in Preferences, under Notifications, and on the Movie Night page.
From your ratings and preferences we work out, once a day, a MatchMe score for each streaming service in your country: how well what it offers fits your taste. We use it to suggest services when you ask Mac, and to choose which streaming service ads you see on For You (they're marked Ad). It's worked out on our own servers. We don't share it with the streaming services or anyone else, and no service can pay to change it. It's deleted with your account.
When you use Ask Mac, we keep the chat (what you and Mac wrote, and the page you were on), linked to your account if you're signed in, so we can help you and improve Mac's answers. If you report a problem, it's emailed to our team with the chat.
When Mac answers a question you've typed using AI, we send your question, the recent chat and the account details Mac needs to answer it (such as your first name, genre order, streaming services, how many titles you've rated and your streaming service scores) to Anthropic, our AI provider, to write the answer. We never send your email address or password. Your chats are deleted with your account.
If you link your account with a partner's, you each see the other's name, picture, the picks you add to Movie Night and, once you've both locked in your choices, how each of you ranked them. Your ratings and preferences stay your own. Either of you can unlink at any time in Preferences.
MatchMeAMovie for Fire TV and Android TV shows the same account as the website. When you sign in on a TV, we keep a sign-in for that TV and a random code that identifies the TV, so everyone who has signed in on it can switch between their accounts without a password. You can remove yourself from a TV at any time from the TV's account menu.
To open a film in the right streaming app, the TV app checks which streaming apps are installed on that TV. That list stays on the TV – we don't store it. When you press Watch, we note the title and the service you chose, so we can ask you later how it was.
Signing in a TV with your phone. When you sign in a TV at matchmeamovie.com/link, the TV shows a short code that works once and expires after 10 minutes. We keep the code only long enough to connect the TV to your account.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we share it only as described here.
We use a small number of our own cookies: one that keeps you signed in; one that remembers this device has signed in before; one that remembers your country, so we show the right services; a random visitor number that lets us count visits (it holds nothing about who you are); and, on the TV app, one that identifies the TV. We don't use advertising cookies.
Your data is stored on secure servers and travels to and from our site encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed using industry-standard methods and are never stored in plain text. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
You can update your preferences, country and notifications at any time in Preferences.
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time: go to Preferences › Reset or delete › Delete my account, or visit matchmeamovie.com/delete_account.php. This removes your ratings, watchlist, preferences, streaming service scores, chats with Mac, Movie Nights, partner link, notifications and every sign-in, including on TVs. If you can't sign in, email support@matchmeamovie.com from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you.
Our service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post a notice on our site if we make significant changes.
